March 2 meeting was called by Chapter President Brandon Hoving (National Weather
Service Grand Rapids) at 10:00am. Approximately 22 people in total were in attendance
at the meeting. President Hoving, Chapter Vice-President Nathen Jeruzal, Chapter
Treasurer William Marino, Secretary Steve Derry, and Chapter Webmaster Linda
Paige were all in attendance. Went around the room with introductions. Chapter
President Hoving introduced New Chapter Secretary Derry.
Treasurer Morino gave treasurer's report for the Chapter. Chapter has $483.00 in
bank accounts.
Vice-President Jeruzal gave update on Winter Forecast Contest. President Hoving and
Vice-President Jeruzal talked and answered questions about the New water tower,
NW of National Weather Service Grand Rapids Office. The two lower slices of
radar are effected. Nothing can be done about it.
Vice-President Jeruzal gave a presentation, Wacky Winter of 2012-13. Winter season
snowfall and the record February observed in Muskegon, MI.
Cort Scholten was our guest speaker for the meeting. Cort is currently finishing up
his graduate studies at Plymouth State University. He spoke about Dual-pol products
and applications with the Weather radar, about their behavior in FL convection, and
talk about his experience, and the role of the 45th Weather Squadron in "exploiting
the weather to assure safe access to air and space".
Vice-President Jeruzal gave links for on-line training for Dual-pol radar from the
NWS Warning Decision Training Branch and PING Project. Also mentioned Great
Lakes Meteorology Conference, hosted by Northwest Indiana Chapter of the
AMS/NWA on March 23, 2013. Also mentioned Scholarships/Internships with NASA
(Deadline March 15, 2013).
The meeting was adjourned by President Hoving at approximately 12:30pm. An
informal tour of the NWS Operations was given by Vice-President Jeruzal for all
interested people after the meeting had concluded.
