Our guest speaker was Dr. Alan Steinman, Director and Professor of Water Resources at Grand Valley State University. He gave a phenomenal presentation about Harmful Algal Blooms, just like the Lake Erie Algal Blooms that have occurred in last couple of years.  He also discussed Muskegon Lake, weather and stormwater runoff, weather and the lake response, and prevention and treatment.  We greatly appreciate his time and expertise.  He provided his entire presentation, which you can view at the link below.

In 2010, the groundwork was put in to develop a local chapter of both the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA) This chapter, called the Southwest Michigan Chapter of the AMS and NWA, is open to not only professional meteorologists in the area but also to anyone who has an interest in weather and would like to develop relationships with those who have similar interests. Some of the goals of the chapter in 2012 and beyond include:

* Hosting speakers and lecturers with expertise in weather or how weather affects their business, operation, etc.

* Supporting science fairs

* Organizing and hosting workshops

* Developing relationships and making new contacts

* …and much more!
