Manga & Fandoms

Usually, if there's an anime, there's a manga. I personally like to read and watch so I have a wide variety of manga. I enjoy multiple genera's of manga. I usually read romance and action. If you want to start reading manga and you don't watch anime, I would suggest to start with something ongoing or small. My Hero Academia (by Kohei Horikoshi) is an ongoing, manga and anime about heroes and villains. It has 29 volumes and five seasons. I recommend not to ever join the fandom because it's extremely toxic and personally, I think it's quite weird. Another short manga I would recommend is Ouran High School Host Club (by Bisco Hatori). There are 18 volumes and it is completed. There is one season. Everyone in the fandom hopes for season two but, I have been waiting for a season two for the past decade. Over all, I really enjoyed this manga and anime. Lastly, Given (by Natsuki Kizu) is a really good manga and anime. It will probably make you cry. Well, it made me cry at least. There are five volumes in the manga and 11 episodes. The whole storyline was sad but it was really good at the same time. Something I do NOT recommend reading if it's your first time watching anime or reading manga is Naruto/Shippuden/Boruto (Masashi Kishimoto). There are 72 volumes of Naruto and Shippuden and 13 volumes of Boruto (which is ongoing). There are 21 seasons in Shippuden, 9 seasons in Naruto, and 182 episodes of Boruto. The only reason I don't recommend this to people knew to manga is because it's really long otherwise, it's in my top five. I'm only on season four of Naruto. If it's your first time reading, you should try out one of the manga I mentioned above. Thank you!

Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer is a manga series written by Koyoharu Gotouge, with an anime adaptation. The series is relatively new, with the anime still ongoing. It takes place in Taishō-era Japan and follows Tanjiro Kamado and his journey in the Demon Slayer Corps. He is determined to become a demon slayer; as a result of the killing of his family and his sister, Nezuko, turning into a demon. Demons are creatures that devour humans. They can regenerate limbs, which can make defeating a demon a struggle—and it can be frustrating as a viewer who is desperately rooting for a win. These beings may also have special abilities, called “Blood Demon Art.” Demon slayers practice breathing styles or techniques, which often serve as an advantage when fighting. From the catchy theme song and light comic relief to the somewhat darker side of the plot, Demon Slayer is an incredible series that deserves its popularity and praise.

Konosuba

Imagine this, you’ve just bought a brand new game and you’re excitedly walking home. You notice your crush walking in the middle of the road and you hear a horn. You have to think fast so you push your crush out of the way, preparing to sacrifice yourself for her. Next thing you know you're in heaven with some goddess named Aqua, well this is life for 17 year old Sato Kazuma. Soon after his, “heroic,” death, the goddess breaks it to him that he wasn’t killed by a speeding car, it wasn’t even a car. The supposed car was actually a tractor, driven by an old man. The cause of death wasn’t the impact, it was actually a heart attack from fear of being hit by the car. If this isn’t embarrassing enough, the goddess then reveals when his family found out, they were laughing at how stupid it was. Kazuma now looks like an idiot, but the goddess offers him a chance at redemption. The goddess tells him through her laughs that he can be reincarnated in a fantasy world with one ability. But he’s furious at the goddess so he demands that she be the power up he brings. The head goddess accepts this and they’re both sent off to a fantasy world. You’d expect a goddess to be extremely powerful, but apparently they’re extremely useless when they’re not in heaven. If you’re drawn in by this plot then KonoSuba might be an anime you’d enjoy. The rating is TV-14 as there are some suggestive moments within the show, but other than that it’s a hilarious comedy. - Jake L

Food Wars

Are you a foodie? (If so go check out our Taste Off!” Tab) Do you like Japanese anime? Well then, your in luck. You likely have heard of it before (and ya know, from the title), but if you said yes to those 2 questions, you should watch food wars! Food wars, released in 2015 stars Soma Yukihira, who assists his father in their family’s Diner, Yukihira in Tokyo Japan. When his father leaves for some international errands, Soma attends a new high school, Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute (or just Totsuki) where he battles his peers, teachers, and himself at cooking and learning new culinary skills. He meets Megami Tatakoro, a student who nearly failed the middle school, and was told if she failed one more time, she would be kicked out of Totsuki. For her first class, French Cooking, she is paired up with the new transfer student, Soma. He now has a bad rep for thinking this school will be easy and I’ll take 1st place. Of course, the other students know of how hard it is to get by and prank soma, like pouring mounds of salt on his dishes when he doesn’t look. And this happens as Soma and Megami make their first dish, beef bourgingion. They need to make another, but their isn’t time for a new dish to be tender by the end of class! But Soma starts it anyways. Megami, confused, telling him of their time constraints. But as they serve Chef Japelle, known by the students as “the chef that never smiles,” delivered a bite of beef to his mouth and...smiled! His rule is you get an A or F. One or the other, no in between. “I give you an A. But, I wish I could give you a higher grade, for this is excellent.”, a student who was in the middle school but heard that if she fails one more class, she's kicked from the program. The first day of freshman year, during French Cooking Class she is paired up with our new student, Soma. Soma goes through the years, to venture and sacrifice with his friends and cooks. Most importantly, has plenty of food wars.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan will forever be known as one of the best anime of this generation. The story follows Eren Jeager in a world full of Titans that fill the world with terror. Titans are giant beings that will crush anybody who walks beneath them. To protect its citizens from the Titans, the government had  giant walls built that Titans couldn’t breach because they were neither strong, nor tall enough to. For 100 years peace inside of the walls had been maintained, until one day the wall was breached by a giant titan and thousands were killed. Eren, and his friends Mikasa and Armin survive by escaping on a boat to a different wall. Eren, determined to avenge the death of his mother, becomes full of hatred for Titans and boasts about how he’s going to kill all of them. In order to kill titans, you must go outside the walls, which is why Eren and his friends decide to join the training corps. In the training corps they meet a lot of people and they all get along well.  This anime is rated TV-MA because it contains very violent and graphic scenes that may disturb some viewers. Now here’s a heads up if you were thinking about talking to some people online about this show, DONT. This anime’s fandom is infamous for belittling the show and spoiling people who have not read the manga. All this considered, I hope you enjoy!

Another

“Another,” is an anime directed by Tsutomu Mizushima and written by Yukito Ayatsuji. It's 12 episodes long and is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Its maturity rating is TV-MA as it’s very, well… not child friendly.  It’s main character goes by the name Koichi Sakakibara, and we’re first introduced to him while he’s hospitalized. Students from his new class, Class 3, come to introduce themselves to him, those characters are pretty irrelevant though. Not even Koichi is the most important character, that award would go to Mei Misaki. Koichi meets Misaki one night at the hospital and sees her enter an elevator. Koichi would be the smartest horror protagonist ever as he follows the creepy little girl holding a doll inside the elevator. The elevator rides down to the basement floor of the hospital and Mei Misaki walks out of the elevator holding a doll, the only problem is Mei Misaki might not exist.-
