Mac Apps
If you want to grab big really good images of app icons or parts of an application interface, drag the app icon (found in the Applications folder) onto the preview icon. Every single image used in that application gets opened by preview. You can then copy them and paste them into your presentations.
iOS Apps
If its iOS app icons you're after, open up iTunes on your Mac and click on the app you want the image of. Open the artwork viewer (in the bottom lefthand side of iTunes) and drag the image out and onto your desktop (or wherever you want to put the image).

Quick shortcut to shut down the comp.
I learnt this from one of my Y5 students. To shut a Mac Computer down, press the three keys next to the spacebar (Control / Option / Command) and then press the eject key. Voila, your Mac shuts down!
Autocorrect Spelling in Lion 1
I like the autocorrect spelling feature in Lion. It works for me. However, sometimes you want to remove a word from the User dictionary -
Your Library folder is hidden in OS X Lion. Before we can edit the Dictionary, the Library folder has to be made visible. To do that, open the Terminal app and type (without quotes) “chflags nohidden ~/Library/” and push return. Your Library folder should now be visible. You can also open the Library folder by going to the Go menu in the Finder and holding down the option key. The Library folder will appear in the menu.
To access the Library folder, open your hard drive and navigate to Users/yourname/Library/Spelling. There should be a file called LocalDictionary. Open that file in TextEdit, remove the misspelled word, and save your changes.

Autocorrect Spelling in Lion 2
Even though I love the autocorrect feature in Lion, when it changes stuff and you don't realise, it can be a pain! However, someone has made an app called autocorrectbeeper, that beeps a sound every time your Mac autocorrects a word. That way, you can quickly check to see if the change is desirable.

Get a WebDAV Server Working Quick and Easy on Your Mac
If you have an iOS device, chances are at some stage you'll want to transfer stuff over from your Mac of vice versa using WebDAV. But if you don't have WebDAV setup at school, you can set it up pretty quick and easy using a Mac App Store app called MediaMaster Server (free). The app has some basic settings (WebDAV address, user name and password, on / off switch), and it has the settings you plug into the app you are using on your iOS device. You will need to know your Macs IP address as well (that's the start of the WebDav address).
A great WebDAV iOS app for the iPad is WebDAV Nav (free).
This is really handy when you want to get a load of images onto a computer quickly. Remote Snap is an iOS app that works on any iOS device with a camera. It uses a helper application your Mac that sits up in the toolbar. Take a photo and it instantly gets sent over Wifi to your Mac. We have found that if you have multiple copies of the Remote Snap server open on Macs in your school, that you need to restart the iOS app until it connects to the correct Mac!

Use text shortcuts to type repetitive words and fractions quickly
Open up System Preferences and select the "Language & Text" option. Select the "Text" tab, and then tick all of the fractions options. You can also put in shortcuts for text you write all the time, and it automagically expands! I have 'SRP' set to turn into 'Selwyn Ridge Primary' and 'm@' to turn into my school email address.
I work at Selwyn Ridge Primary School in Welcome Bay, Tauranga as the ICT Integration Specialist Teacher. It's an awesome place!
Currently I am loving learning iPad app development. I have a few iPad apps out there --> "100s Board", "Numbers 0-9", "NumberFind", "LetterFind", "Tens Frame", "Adding Hands", and have an iPhone / iPod Touch app called "RR" (as well as "RunningRecs"). When I'm not playing on my Macs and iOS Devices I'm spending time with my beautiful family. I also want to spend a bit more time mountain biking and sailing this summer!
