Term2-Lesson4

Leading the learning

Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was thinking about perspectives and perceptions about what we read, this has been building on from previous learning throughout the term. You can see from the video however, that the learners had little trouble taking on the perspectives of multiple characters in the story. This video shows more time spent understanding inferencing, however a previous guided lesson had focussed strongly on perspectives and perceptions for this story. This is because this story dealt with racism in New Zealand towards Chinese in the 1800's, and required teacher support and discussion to understand. You can see the learners touch on it at about 3.40.

Reflection/ Next steps

This video shows the second guided lesson for this story. You can see that the majority of the group is engaged and focussed in the lesson. All the students have a good understanding, and are eager to share their ideas. I was impressed with how deeply they had thought about the reading, and about the learning they were doing. All of the group succeeded in thinking from the perspective of multiple characters in the story.
