Home Furnishings Production Recommended Grade Level: 11-12 grade

Length of Course: 1/2 Semester (90 Minute Block)

Course Description: Students will further explore careers related to housing, interiors, and furnishings. During this course, students will develop an understanding of all aspects of the housing career field including construction a house, and designing living spaces to meet the needs of clients. This course will be taught concurrently with Housing and Home Furnishing as independent study with the following prerequisite: Housing and Home Furnishing.

FCS 9.1 Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in housing interiors, and furnishings.

9.1.1 Analyze career paths within the housing, interiors and furnishings industry

9.1.2 Identify factors involved in constructing a house (materials, framing, roof styles, local regulations)

9.1.3 Evaluate housing and design concepts in relation to available resources and options

9.1.4 Distinguish between housing and interior furnishings and products need to meet specific design needs.

9.1.5 Research and determine the financial obligations related to housing

9.1.6 Analyze ways to create outdoor living spaces that complement the house style and meets individual and family needs

FCS 9.2 Demonstrate technical skills required for the housing interior and design industry.

9.2.1 Demonstrate design, blueprint reading, space planning skills and an understanding of housing systems

9.2.2 Apply design knowledge, skills, processes and oral, written and visual presentation skills to communicate design ideas

FCS 9.3 Analyze influences on architecture, interiors and furnishings throughout the ages.

9.3.1 Distinguish between historical housing styles and architectural details

9.3.2 Describe how societal and technological trends influenced the development of architectural styles throughout history

9.3.3 Predict and analyze future design and development trends in architecture, interiors and furnishings

FCS 9.4 Design housing and interiors based on an evaluation of the client’s needs, goals and resources.

9.4.1 Evaluate client’s community, family and financial resources needed to achieve housing and interior design goals

9.4.2 Critique design plans to address client’s needs, goals and resources

9.4.3 Create a design board that meets the needs of a client and is within budget
