Early Childhood Education I
Recommended Grade Level: 10-12 grade
Length of Course: 1/2 Semester (90 Minute Block)
Course Description: This course will focus on children birth-8 years and include areas such as: Creating a learning environment, interacting with children, creating learning activities, health and safety, and nutrition. Parenting practices will also be covered along with observations (possibly interaction) among various day cares and pre-school programs. Perquisites: Human Growth and Development, Child Care and Parenting

FCS 6.1 Integrate knowledge, skills and practices required for careers in early childhood education and services.
6.1.1 Distinguish between career paths within early childhood education and related services.
6.1.2 Compare and contrast the categories and types of childcare.
6.1.3 Identify current childcare licensing standards and laws
FCS 6.2 Analyze developmentally appropriate practices to plan for early childhood, education, and services.
6.2.1 Distinguish between different types of learning
6.2.2 Identify and evaluate multiple teaching strategies that promote children’s growth and development
6.2.3 Identify screening and assessment tools
6.2.4 Observe children in a variety of settings and develop strategies to meet their needs.
FCS 6.3 Identify a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
6.3.1 Identify safe and healthy practices according to state and federal regulations
6.3.2 Identify the nutritional needs and plan nutritious meals and snacks that meet regulations for child care programs
6.3.3 Demonstrate first aid procedures
