Fashion Design Recommended Grade Level: 11-12 grade
Length of Course: 1/2 Semester (90 Minute Block)
Course Description: This addresses the history of fashion, fabric art and printing. Students will use creativity to illustrate fashion concepts, and the application of artistic principles and techniques to the design of apparel and accessories. The course may also include computer assisted designing, labor and cost analysis, and appropriate construction techniques. Students will demonstrate information and media literacy skills. This course will be taught as independent study concurrently with Clothing and Textiles. Prerequisite: Clothing and Textiles.

11.1.1 Analyze career paths within design industries
11.1.2 Demonstrate fashion, apparel and textile design skills
11.1.3 Demonstrate skills needed to produce, alter or repair fashion, apparel and textile products
11.1.4 Evaluate elements of textile, apparel and fashion merchandising
FCS 11.2 Use critical thinking and creative thinking to develop clothing and accessories
11.2.1 Exhibit successful pattern design and textile coordination
11.2.2 Demonstrate the ability to follow a concept through flat pattern articulation or draping processes to the production of a product
11.2.3 Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the development of products for situation specific design
FCS 11.3 Integrate business knowledge, skills and practices required for careers in textiles and apparel design and merchandising.
11.3.5 Evaluate the components of customer service
11.3.6 Demonstrate general operational procedures required for business profitability and career success
