Travel Policy + Guidance

Post date: Apr 13, 2021

Dear Colleagues:

The University recently (4/9/21) updated policies regarding domestic travel. Please see: https://www.nyu.edu/life/safety-health-wellness/coronavirus-information/campus-life/travel-policy.html and note required approvals for university-funded domestic travel. The relevant section also appears below:

Domestic Travel

Domestic travel is permitted -- though still discouraged -- if it is entirely funded by external sources and does not need to be submitted for review.

University-funded travel will only be permitted if approved by the University’s Travel Review Committee. If you believe a specific trip should be exempt from this policy and wish to seek an exception, please email details of your proposed trip to travelsafety@nyu.edu.

Please note: The United States Centers for Disease Control & Prevention discourages all travel for individuals who are not fully vaccinated.

Travelers to New York Following Domestic Travel

Individuals traveling within the United States are not required to quarantine upon arrival in New York. However, consistent with CDC guidelines, NYU strongly recommends quarantining following domestic travel with PCR testing on Day 4.

Thank you for your attention to this policy change.

Regards,

Lauren and Randall

Dear Colleagues,

As a reminder, notwithstanding the guidance provided at this week's administrators meeting, the university and we request your help to limit travel (along with avoiding crowded venues and following mask/distancing guidelines) at this time. We ask that you carefully review the guidelines below and the current travel policy (https://www.nyu.edu/life/safety-health-wellness/coronavirus-information/campus-life/travel-policy.html), and share them with your colleagues, faculty, and students.

This means:

-- We urge individuals to explore online/remote alternatives to travel when possible.

-- Please defer travel if not absolutely necessary.

-- If travel is essential (examples include required on-site laboratory experiments that are part of a grant, archival material that is not available online, dissertation research that requires in-person work)

-- Any international travel is currently prohibited unless an exception is made by NYU's Travel Review Committee (travelsafety@nyu.edu) prior to travel

-- Any domestic travel must meet high standards for being essential for teaching or research (see examples above)

Please take care when purchasing travel to strictly adhere to the above guidelines as we will not be able to reimburse expenses that do not comply with the current restrictions. Within the reimbursement request, please include a brief memo clarifying that the travel has met the above criteria. If you have any questions or need guidance, please feel free to contact us or your fiscal representative.

The health and safety of the entire NYU community is a priority, and all of us need to do our part to ensure compliance with both New York State and NYU testing and quarantine requirements.

Thanks,

Lauren and Randall
