T to U: San Luis Obispo to Bay Area, CA via Big Sur, CA

January 14, 2010

We were excited to drive north along Highway 1 - a route we had followed Blind Pilot along in the fall fo 2008. The hills were greener than during the fall and the colors were refreshing after a week spent in the sepia toned desert landscape. Emily's mother had worked in Big Sur in the late 1960s and recommended that we stop at Nepenthe's for lunch. We made it right before the rush and sat overlooking a beautiful view of Big Sur. After a delicious meal of roasted beets, goat cheese and a french dip sandwich, we stopped by the Henry Miller library to check out their book selection and garden. Wanting to beat rush hour traffic we continued out of Big Sur and through San Jose to the our friend's house in the East Bay, where we had a fun evening telling the stories of our adventure over dinner.
