A Listicle of Why I Voted for Hillary Clinton--and why I'm Upset
- Hillary was qualified! Many people I respected endorsed her because they agreed that she had the skills, experience, and resume to serve as President.
- Hillary proved herself to be tough enough, strong enough and resilient enough (she put up with a bully through three debates).
- Hillary had PLANS, Policies, and thoughtful solutions to problems. She demonstrated an ability to pass legislation when she served in the Senate. She knows how to work with people on both sides of the aisle.
- Hillary was a team player, serving as Secretary of State after losing the nomination to Barack: watching former rivals working together for the good of the American people was inspiring. To see her standing next to President Obama and later to see both Barack and Michelle campaign for her was a reminder of how America is supposed to work—as a collaboration, not an endless competition.
- Hillary would have broken the ultimate glass ceiling: other countries have had women leaders so why not America? Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Angela Merkel, Benazir Bhutto, Theresa May, and Aung San Suukyl. She should have been our leader.
- Hillary’s campaign focused on building bridges, in contrast to Trump, who seemed more interested in dividing us and walling us off from each other. She advocated for women, children, minorities, gay, immigrants, veterans, the elderly, and college students struggling with debt.
- Hillary inspired us: Trump frightened us. She stood up to him using her poise, controlling her body language, and using her sense of humor. He seemed petty, self-absorbed, and childish, with his elementary school mindset of giving every rival a derogatory nickname.
- Hillary’s concession speech given on Wednesday was powerful, eloquent, and Presidential. She was gracious, candid, and unbroken. She wore a black and purple pantsuit and Bill Clinton stood beside her, showing solidarity with a matching purple tie. I was never prouder than to have voted for her.
- So, seeing her defeated by a candidate like Donald Trump was astonishing. He has no substance. He has no well-developed plan. He relies on trite clichés to fire up the base, including some frightening groups like the KKK. He has never served in public office, where the goal is not to beat your opponent but find a way to work with him. He likes to fire people, insult them, denigrate them, and use his power to shame them.
- The idea that such an immature, selfish, and cruel man could do anything to help our country is surreal; he seems ill-equipped, to put it mildly. He has not demonstrated any depth of knowledge of the problems, much less how to fix them. He has repeated the same lies, half-truths, and distortions since the early days of his campaign, demonstrating either an unwillingness to listen to factual briefings or a lack of curiosity about the issues, to begin with.
- He may become our next President but he has done so much damage to the American people that he will NEVER be “my” President. He has not earned that title. Hillary STILL WON the Popular Vote, by 200,000 votes.
- Not only that, only 1 in 4 eligible voters voted for Trump. One in four voters voted for Hillary. Almost HALF of eligible voters were NO SHOWS. Why? Many possible answers but if things go badly, I hope they are squirming.
- During the campaign, not enough attention was placed on his legal problems, the growing list of women who accuse him of sexual assault or unwanted sexual attention, on his finances and taxes, his Foundation, and his defunct Trump University. You thought Hillary had legal problems? His are far worse.
