10 things I am thankful for this past week--after having Foot Surgery
1. A kind, skilled surgeon with magic hands and a compassionate heart--Dr. Ron Cervetti
2. Wonderful nurses at Covenant Hospital’s Ambulatory Surgery unit
3. My sweetie Mike for his tough love, great care and humor
4. Our villa with wide hallways, doors and space to use the wheelchair we rented
5. Three wonderful teachers subbing for me for the next 8 weeks so that I can focus on healing
6. My Communications Department colleagues for their support and a great boss, Dean Freeman, for her work arranging subs and encouraging me to put my health as my top priority this semester
7. Friends and family for meals, calls, email and Facebook messages
8. Jane’s lift chair – Mike’s siblings wanted him to have his mom’s chair after her death last fall. (She came to help me after my first foot surgery in 2008. She brought me her old one pound hand weights to use in the wheelchair--in her 80s, she went to Wellness classes faithfully and had moved on to two or three pound weights. She didn't want me to just sit around and feel sorry for myself. I love the chair and still miss her).
9. The wonders of mobile technology and dedicated IT support. My iPads and iPhone have been wonderful, and I’ve used my Kindle a lot, especially at night when my foot hurts or I can’t get to sleep. I’m writing this post on Mike’s laptop, using Remote Desktop so that I can access files on my big PC.
10. Finally, I am thankful for having the first week of healing behind me, with at least 6 or 7 to go.
