SMART GOAL SPECIFIC SENTENCE: I will learn about Robotics using the Robotic Arm
HOW TO SAVE:Click Save Action File > Choose your Period Folder in Documents > Rename the file > Save
Robotics helps humans complete tasks with less energy. Once programmed, they cost less than a human worker, mess up less, and can sometimes be reprogrammed to complete a different task.
However, they need ENGINEERS and PROGRAMMERS to design and control them, which is what you will learn with the Robot Arm!
What I'll Learn
I CAN write a program to perform a task
I CAN solve a problem using the code I write
I CAN save and edit my programs over multiple days
Stuff I'll Need
Robot Arm kit
LeArm Software
Tutorial to follow instructions
Day 1
Follow the tutorial to create your first program
Day 3
Move on to Dr. Pollina's Challenges
Day 2
Skim through the tutorial again, remembering tools
Day 4
Complete your own challenge!
This is a 6DOF robot, meaning there are Six Degrees Of Freedom (six different SERVOS that you can control)
Each Servo (programmable motor)has a minimum and maximum value that you can edit/play with
If you hear a clicking noise after moving a servo, turn the robot off and move the part back - do not let it continue clicking! You will burn the servo out
ID:1 - open/close claw
ID:2 - twist wrist
ID:3 - bend wrist
ID:4 - bend elbow
ID:5 - bend shoulder
ID:6 - twist shoulder
You must complete each challenge and show it to Dr. Pollina before moving on to the next challenge
A good program can be repeated, so it has to work twice!
Dr. Pollina's Programming Challenges
Make the arm wave to you
Stack one STEM cube on top of another
Switch the position of the two STEM cubes
Hold a marker and write "HI" on paper
Where is Robotics used in the Real World?
Automation
Robots can do some jobs more efficiently with less energy/cost
Exploration
Robots can handle conditions that humans cannot, like in space or deep underwater
Rescue
Robots can save people in dangerous areas or defuse bombs
