SMART GOAL SPECIFIC SENTENCE: I will learn about 3D Modeling using 3D Scanning
HOW TO SAVE:When starting a new scan, I need to rename the file > then choose the save location as my Period Folder inside the Documents folder > Scan files save once I finish my scan
3D Scanning uses camera and distance scanning technology to turn a real 3D object into a digital 3D object
Scan something and then 3D print a small copy of it!
What I'll Learn
I CAN take a scan of a 3D object
I CAN edit and prepare a 3D object for printing
I CAN export my file for the 3D printer
Stuff I'll Need
3D Scanner and Light
CrealityScan Software on Desktop
An object to scan
3D Scanning Tutorial.mp4
Day 1
Scan the T-REX, solidify it, and check for any holes
Day 3
Scan any object (like your shoe?) or you can scan a friend!
Day 2
Show Dr. Pollina that there are no missing sections/holes
Day 4
Export your STL file to TinkerCad, make it ready to 3d print
Things to Know:
Works best on objects bigger than a shoe
Scan slowly and SMOOTHLY from every angle
If it freaks out, go back to an already scanned spot
You might have to re-scan A LOT
Project Ideas
Scan your favorite shoe and turn it into a keychain
Scan a toy to make a tiny version of it
Scan a person - closing your eyes works best, stay absolutely still!
You can 3D print a scan!
Prepare to 3D Print your scan
Lower the amount of faces to under 20,000 with the processing tool
You may also need to lower the resolution
Export your file as .STL
Import into Tinkercad (only files under 25Mb)
If the file is larger than 25mb
Import the .stl file in Blender
Click the blue wrench on the right and add a Decimate Modifier
Change the ratio to 0.5 and hit enter
Export the new file to another .stl
Import the final .stl file into TinkerCad and create a base/make sure it is flat on the bottom for printing
Let Dr. Pollina know once the file is ready in TinkerCADÂ
