Using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
This class will focus on developing key skills:
Self-direction: Teaching yourself and staying on task
Computer literacy: Using technology effectively
Typing: Practicing daily to improve speed and accuracy
Collaboration: Working with and helping classmates
Problem-solving: Tackling challenges with creativity and persistence
Documentation and presentation: Recording progress and sharing knowledge
Dealing with failure: Learning from mistakes—it’s okay to fail!
Class Activities
Typing Practice & Tests:
Play typing games daily (if you don't practice EVERY DAY, you won't improve)
Focus on improving your speed and accuracy using all of your fingers and without looking at the keyboard
Testing speeds on Mondays (e.g., Type Racer, Typing.com, TypingTest.com)
STEM Journals:
Document your projects with goals, daily reflections, and progress pictures
Use complete sentences and upload your work to your Portfolio Website
Reflection Videos:
After each project, record a video reflecting on your work and what you learned.
You will then upload them to your Portfolio Website with your STEM Journals

YOU choose your projects, so it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stay on task. Use this STEM website’s resources, tutorials, and guides to teach yourself and troubleshoot

Weekly Lessons and Assignments
Monday Lessons: Learn about a new technology topic each week. You will complete a Google Form in class to demonstrate understanding. Bring your iPad to make it easier to do the assignment
No Homework: As long as you stay on task every day
BUT if I catch you off task or distracting others, I will give you homework for wasting class time
Classroom Rules
😎 DO:
Respect the classroom, equipment, and your classmates
Collaborate and assist others when needed
Clean up after yourself
🚫 DO NOT:
Roll in chairs or unlock desk wheels.
Press buttons on pylons or PCs
#1 RULE: stay on task for the entire period
Computer Rules
😎 DO:
Save your work daily in the Documents folder under your class period
Use descriptive file names you’ll remember
🚫 DO NOT:
Use religious or political messages in projects
Download anything without permission
Touch cables or hardware beyond the mouse and keyboard
When You Enter:
Drop off belongings on shelf, use hand sanitizer, and check the TV for instructions
Gather materials and start working
Documentation:
Fill in your STEM Journal daily with screenshots and reflections
Highlight successes, challenges, and what you learned
Cleanup:
Music will play at the end of the period
Save work and log out of accounts
Put materials away, untangle cords, and push in chairs
Bathroom:
Use during passing periods when possible
If during class, use the Securly pass system and inform Dr. Pollina when you return
Remember, if you get stuck:
Someone, somewhere, has most likely run into the same problem you are facing, so
look it up online!
HAVE FUN!
Ultimately, you should enjoy your time in STEM
If a project or situation isn't working for you, tell Dr. Pollina before/after class
