Learning about the unparallel features of Kerala

Learning about the unparallel features of Kerala

On 12th March 2024, the students of Class 4 of Laxman Public School celebrated Kerala day basing it on their Hindi lesson 'Kerala ka Nimantran'.

Without even stepping out of their room the students were able to learn and bring the flavours of Kerala into their own class rooms.

The students learned to greet everyone with a Tilak of Chandan and welcome everyone saying Vanakkam in Malayalam. They learned  about the culture and their traditions. They enlightened themselves about the dance forms like Mohiniyattam and Kathakali. They shared their new knowledge about spices of Kerala with their classmates and teachers. The students decorated their classrooms with flower petals and innovative articles made out of coconut shell.

Some of the students could even identify and locate Kerala which is on the South Western side of India. Few students dressed up in the traditional dress of Kerala. A boy wore Mundu Neriyathu which is a dhoti and a shirt and a young girl dressed up in Pattu Pavada which is a long skirt and a silk blouse.

They displayed an array of food and snacks of Kerala on banana leaves. They brought Appama, Idli, Dosa, Coconut Chutney, Lemon rice with tangy Sambhar and Rasam.

They enticed everyone with coconut water.

Students were excited to eat and share deserts like Coconut laddoo and Payasam.

Children not only learned about the spices but they also got the chance to taste a few dishes from the Malabar Cuisine.

The students enjoyed watching a small documentary based on Kerala.

They went home with a dream to travel to Kerala and experience God's own country.
