Counseling Mission and Vision

Beliefs

● Counselors believe all students can achieve success in the challenging academic liberal arts program at D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School.

● Counselors believe in advocating for students and teaching students to advocate for themselves at school, at home and in the community so that they can achieve their goals and reach their potential.

● Counselors believe in collaborating with teachers, staff, administration, parents and the community to support the education of our students.

● Counselors believe in providing for the developmental needs of our students at all grade levels through our counseling guidance curriculum and ICAP (Individual Career & Academic Plan).

● Counselors believe it is important to work with all the stakeholders including administration, teachers, staff, parents, students and the community to build a comprehensive guidance program.

● Counselors will utilize an annual needs assessment as well as program exit surveys to gather data and provide relevant programming that meet the academic, personal/social and college/career needs of our students.

● Counselors value high ethical and moral standards in working with students, parents and teachers.

● All students regardless of race, culture, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability should be treated equally, respected, and valued as an integral part of our community.

Vision Statement

Create a proactive and supportive environment where every student will take responsibility for their education and gain the foundational knowledge and skills to be able to think critically, communicate effectively and advocate for what they need to reach their individual potential and become engaged citizens in their local and global communities.

Mission Statement

The mission of the D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School Counseling Department is to promote the growth of well-­rounded, self-reliant successful individuals by teaching students effective communication skills and providing social/emotional, academic, and college/career counseling for every student. Counselors will provide programs through a collaborative effort of educators, parents and the community that engage and challenge all students to be the best that they can be.
