You MUST apply within 30 days of the event or you will have to wait for the Open Enrollment Period.

FOR HEALTHCARE
Benefits can only be changed during Open Enrollment or due to a timely filed Qualifying Event. Documents to completed are located under Healthcare for the plan you elect.
WHEN COVERAGE BEGINS -
When Coverage begins for Qualifying Events (see IRC125) - a complete application includes ALL supporting documents:
If you apply WITHIN 30 days of the qualifying event, coverage begins the date of the event. Changes in coverage during the month will not be prorated and the full month's cost will be charged.
If you apply BEYOND 30 days AFTER the qualifying event, your only option is to enroll during the Open Enrollment Period.
When Coverage begins for Open Enrollment - January 1st. Employees can change their Healthcare coverage for the following calendar year. The Open Enrollment Period is during the month of OCTOBER - communication will be sent via internal email and posted on these webpages.
REDUCING COVERAGE - Employees can change from Family Coverage to Individual Coverage or cancel their healthcare only if they have a Qualifying Life Event. See above links for proper documentation.
COORDINATING WITH HEALTHCARE WAIVERS - Reducing Coverage may make you eligible for a healthcare waiver payment. Since waivers are only paid once per year, be sure to submit a Waiver Application (available during Open Enrollment).
INCREASING COVERAGE - To change from Individual Coverage to Family Coverage or to sign up for coverage outside of the Open Enrollment Period, a Qualifying Life Event is required. Healthcare changes during the year will trigger a one time deduction adjustments to align the monthly charge with your payroll deduction schedule. When adding dependents (children or spouse), additional documentation is required (visit Healthcare for available plans and supporting documents). See above links for proper documentation.
COORDINATING WITH HEALTHCARE WAIVERS - Increasing Coverage will require you to repay all or a portion of a previously received healthcare waiver payment.
FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCES (employee paid)
Benefits can only be changed during Open Enrollment or due to a Qualifying Event. Contact the Employee Benefits Department for our AFLAC representative or complete the form below to change your Wageworks Flex Spending Account election.
FOR LIFE INSURANCE
Some bargaining units included district paid life insurance. Your application was completed when you were hired with the district.
CHANGING BENEFICIARIES - This can be done at any time during the year, but Qualifying Events also can trigger the desire to change your life insurance beneficiary. Open Enrollment is a good time to review who is listed as your beneficiary.
