Our body weight is the sum of a variety of organs, tissue, fluid, bone and muscle. These components are subject to either normal changes over a lifespan, growth, development, and aging. A variety of neural, hormonal, and chemical mechanisms influenced both environmental and genetic factors influence an individual's weight management/regulation. As the RD it is important that we work on both ends of weight management spectrum from underweight to overweight and obese. It is vital that we not only have the knowledge to support behavior change but an awareness of the multi-faceted causes of these conditions.
