There's quite a lot of chemistry and engineering going on in this video!

Some of the chemical reactions discussed in the video:

O₃ + Br^- -> BrO₃^- (bromate is a carcinogen)

but it turns out bromide can be converted to bromate in the presence of Cl₂/UV light from the sun (hence the need for the shade balls)
