Cells and Systems

Interactive Notebooks:

We will be using a hybrid of Interactive Notebooks and Doodle Note Templates. Links to templates that I created myself can be found above. If I have used a pre-made template, I have provided a link to the seller's TPT page.

Templates for Parts of a Microscope and Microscope Do's and Don'ts from Captivate Science

Observing Microorganisms

Use our microscopes to look at Pond Water and observe different types of microscopic living things!

Using your observations we will discuss what characteristics are used to determine if something is alive.

Plant and Animal Cell Templates from Captivate Science.

Plant & Animal Cell Structures

The Cell is the smallest thing scientists consider to be alive. Before we start discussing how a single cell meets all of the characteristics of a living thing, let's learn the names and functions of the organelles in plant and animal cells.

Cell Analogies:

Once students have learned the basics of the cell structures and functions they work together in groups to come up with analogies in class!

Fluid Movement in Cells:

The movement of materials through passive processes such as Osmosis and Diffusion are crucial to keeping things alive.

Through these demonstrations and activities, learn how water and other materials move across membranes:

  • Osmosis in an Eggshell

  • Vegetables in Salt Water

  • Gummy Bears in Water

  • Cornstarch and Iodine

Human Body Systems:

Below are some discussions and templates used to introduced different body systems.

Template adapted from Loose in the Lab.

Levers and the Skeletal System:

Use the blank template provided and follow along with the video to fill in what is needed.

Circulatory, Respiratory and Digestive Systems:

These systems work cooperatively to ensure everything your cells need is delivered to them, and that everything cells don't need can be taken away.
