Foods 9 Appetizer Party!

One of my favorite days of the year! As a conclusion to the semester for grade 9 food studies, students plan and execute an appetizer party for all grade 9 students as well as faculty and special guests. They choose their recipe, made modifications to ensure they have an option for vegetarians, adjust the ingredients so they have enough for 60 guests, submit an ingredient list to me and make a plan for preparing and serving all food. This is the 3rd year and 5th Appie Party and I have to say these kids really outdid themselves!

My rule is always that we make EVERYTHING and sometimes that can be a deterrent but this year not so much. Students prepared recipes such as zucchini noodles with roasted peppers and basil pesto, vegetarian spring rolls (and yes, they made the won ton wrappers themselves), tortilla chips and picco de gallo, baked gratin potatoes with herbed sour cream, bacon wrapped weiners and potato wedges, and baked mozza sticks with marinara sauce.

I am SO proud of them! Everyone got to eat lots of food and enjoyed every dish that was prepared. They have certainly set a new standard.
