Gingerbread Communities!

Food Studies 9 is teaming up with French to create Gingerbread Communities. Students were tasked with coming up with buildings they might find in their communities, creating the stencils and outlines and making and baking gingerbread in the correct shapes. They have also made various frostings and candies (from scratch) to decorate!

We are very fortunate to have a lovely Food Studies facility at our school, including beautiful KitchenAid mixers! They sure made life a lot easier as we whipped up 24 batches of gingerbread, candies, frosting and all kinds of other decorations! Students had to choose different types of buildings they would find in a community, design the building, create stencils, cut and bake them out of gingerbread, make all the candy and decorative icing and put it all together. Their showcase involved setting up their 'village' and describing their building En Francais to our younger students. This was a great way to end before the holiday break!
