Slight Change of Plans!

Hello Good Folks.

We hike tomorrow morning! Woo hoo!! Please read the updated, important information below.

We are thankful for all the rain we’ve received recently. Similarly, we are happy that the wetlands are doing their job: retaining water in order to prevent flooding in Athens.

However, because Cook’s Trail is in that wetland, it is submerged. That is, the trail we intended to take in the morning as it has an entrance in the Hidden Pines neighborhood. So, we are moving on to “Plan B”.

Instead of meeting in North Bluff, please plan to arrive at Sandy Creek Nature Center by 11am. (Address = 205 Old Commerce Road Athens, Georgia 30607).

There we will tour the newly renovate facilities, hike around the property, perhaps play some games and end with some food and celebrating in the classroom.

The one snafu we’ve had to work out is how to safely transport the children and families from the neighborhood to the Nature Center without walking across the treacherous Highway 441. We’ve spoken to several groups who have vans. Hopefully one of those will pan out. If not, we will arrange for taxi shuttles. I might not arrive there until closer to 11:15 with the kids, but some helpers will be at the Nature Center to greet you.

Sincerely,
