This project was a combination of skills we have learned and some added new skills too. First we had to make our checkers by designing them on a CAD software. I designed mine on Tinkercad. Because a checker set has two opponents, we had to choose two different icons to put on two different checkers. I chose to do the Facebook logo on one and the Instagram logo on another. These are the final products.
The next step was to make the mold of our checkers. The molds are made of silicon, a flexible material.
On the other hand, the plastic we used for casting is hard and stiff.
The second part of the project was to design the checker board on Inkscape. Since my checkers are about 1.6 inches, I made each square 2 in by 2 in. A checkerboard is eight squares by eight squares, so my entire board was 18 in by 18 in (including a 1 in border) We had the choice of bringing in a piece of wood or using provided cardboard. I brought in a piece of wood to laser cut and raster my checkerboard. Rastering is what the laser cutter does that makes a mark but doesn't cut through. Here is the final product. I used a wood finisher to make a shiny coat on top.
