Breadboard- a solderless device that lets an engineer experiment with test circuits designs

• a breadboard has strips of metal running underneath it
• the holes on the outsides are electrically connected vertically
• the holes in the middle are electrically connected horizontally
• Although there is no difference between the positive rail and ground rail, it is good practice to always keep it consistent
• Also, a small little detail that will save you a lot of time is keep the wires going from the power red and the wires to the ground black

Circuits:

• A circuit must be closed for anything to work
• Power goes from high to low (5v to ground)
• A short circuit is one where the power goes right from the hot to the ground
• Power will go through the path of least resistance, so if the positive leg and negative leg of an LED are placed in the same row, the LED will not light because the power wasn't forced through the LED
• LED- Light emitting diode
  • diodes only allow current to flow one way
  • LED have a positive and negative leg
  • Positive leg must come before negative leg in the circuit
• Resistor- an electrical component that limits the flow of electricity
