Parade of Lights 2017

2017 Parade of Lights!

Now. How did this event play out? Take a look and see. Keep reading down the page.

Parade Of Lights Board Member Heat Miser was out today. He did give us the weather we needed to pull off this event.

He wasn’t Mr. 101 today. He was Mr. 80 Degrees. He’ll explain that in his song.

This guy was nowhere to be found at the Parade Of Lights event this year.

I assure you that this photo is not photo shopped. Gary Files, you can tell who he voted for. He was chief dock hand for the parade.

This is what happens in a Parade Of Lights. Trudi got pinned on the top of the boat by Santa Claus. The spirit of the “Classy Lady” strikes again. What a way to start off the evening.

lead boat will be on station in the assembly area at 1715, and we should start

forming up during twilight according to assigned parade numbers.

The Route:

The route is nine miles long. Running at 5 knots, it should take right about two

hours to complete. It is helpful if you have a GPS, to maintain 5 knots. For those

without a GPS, there is a great chart plotter app called Navionics. We will go up

the western shore first, then SE back over to Twin Points, east to Carter and

Dossier Sloughs’ and make You should never see less than 10 feet of water except

for when making the turn in back of Dossier Slough by the Lake Country Boat

Ramp. Charted depth is 12’.

Leg One:

Start on a westerly course to point just off George Point and the entrance of Ash

Slough, and come to starboard, leaving Roeser Pendleton Point to Port.

Leg Two:

Continue north along the western shore until you reach the Azle Water Pump

Station.

Leg Three:

Turn back to the southeast on a course to leave the Burgess Point and the TRWD

boat ramp/beach to starboard continuing along the shoreline till reaching Baptist

Point.

Leg Four:

Continue east from Baptist Point to the southern side of the entrance to Carter

Slough.

Leg Five:

Upon entering Carter Slough, we will go along the southern shore all the way to

the back of the open part of the slough, make a turn to port, and continue along

the northern shoreline, exiting the slough keeping Carter Point close to starboard.

Be advised that there are several morning balls in Carter Slough, but as long as

you are in line, you should not have any problems with them

Leg Six:

Leaving Carter Point close to Starboard, continue northeast, making a shallow

turn into Little Carter Slough on your starboard side and then head towards the

Long Dock.

Leg Seven:

Leaving the Long Dock close to starboard, continue along the southeastern shore

of Dossier Slough till just before enter the narrow part before the Lake Country

Boat Ramp. Once there, make a turn back to port going west along the northern

shore. At the mouth of the entrance of Harbor One and The Flight Restaurant,

Turn to port and head for the end of “J” Dock at Lake Country Marina, adjacent to

the Long Dock as you enter Dossier Slough.

Leg Eight:

From the end of “J” Dock head south leaving at least 100 yards of clearance off

Crest Point before making your turn to the west to round Craft Point. Leaving

Craft Point close to starboard make a northerly turn to starboard to the entrance to

Hickey Bay.

Leg Nine:

At the entrance to Hickey Bay, make a turn to the west and round Foster Point.

We will continue along the shoreline till we reach the Fort Worth Boat Club.

Upon reaching the club, the boats should pass by the breakwater with is close to

starboard and continue around the club until reaching a position about .75 nautical

mile north of the club. At that point, make a turn back to port and head for the

club leaving the boats behind you in the parade to port.
