Eagle Mountain Marina Damage June 23, 2019

Bad storms hit this marina on the evening of 6-23-19 producing estimated winds of 70 - 80 mph. This was the only marina or lake establishment to be hit. All others marinas reported in no damage. No lives were lost but one person received minor cuts and bruises as he was trapped on a boat he was working on at the time the storm hit. His story is documented below. The marina plans to build back again bigger and better than before but for right now take a look at the disaster that has affected a lot of boat owners. In all an estimated 30 - 35 boats were badly damaged. Many others received minor scrapes and gouges. The marina is busy relocating boats to their other two marinas they own at Lake Country Marina and Harbor One Marina. When those 2 marinas fill up then West Bay Marina will be called upon.

Right after storm passed through. Hard to see. Oncor was dispatched out to shut the power off.

John Unsworth’s (STARR II boat on the left) boat narrowly escaped damage. Heath F’s boat on the right sustained damage.

The roof almost touched John Unsworth’s boat.

At daybreak the loose roof was inching so close ready to scratch up the top side.

Walkway from parking lot down to the Ships Store is turned over and in the lake.

Early Monday morning. Drone pics showing the damage at first light.

G Dock pressed up against B & F docks. G Dock boats were the first boats to get out kind of safely.

The sailboats are crammed in between A and F docks.

Where this blue houseboat is, is the start of E dock.

No chance the Docktor’s boat will be getting out today.

The sailboat was right in middle of everything and narrowly missing several boats.

Up against the dam.

This boat had a pole penetrate the side of hull to the inside. Well above the waterline preventing the boat from sinking.

Here are two videos chronicling Tony Mancil’s adventure on the boat during the storm.

Leftover damage on this 44’ Trojan Yacht it received while tied up at Augies during the storm.

***note - this is not my boat.

Rust leftover from the pier pile ons it was smashing up against.

No swim platform left.

Good Morning Boat Owners,

Greats news! The construction crew has informed us, they will be moving G Dock into the demo area between the hours of 8am-4pm. We ask during this time, you continue to leave your boat in the slip. After 4:30pm, you will be able to remove your boat from the slip and enjoy Eagle Mountain Lake.

As previously reported, A and AA Dock are open for recreation! AA Dock will be accessible from the shore. However, if you are on A Dock you will be shuttled back and forth by water taxi.

The water taxi will run from 9am-6pm for 7 days a week. With construction and demolition going on at Eagle Mountain Marina, we will have designated parking and parking lot attendants to assist you. We will also have dockhands to assist you with any other needs you to may have.

July 2nd, 2019

Today they continue to work diligently to provide access to all boats. Today we are working on some of the more damaged sections of BF and B dock to help free up some of these boats for the holiday. We believe these areas of the marina will take a little time as we want to be cautious of your boat and the safety of our staff. Please continue to be patient while we go about the safe removal of your pride and joy. We understand emotions are running high and our PRIMARY focus this week is freeing up boats. Other inquiries to the future of the marina, power, re-build, July invoicing, etc. are being planned and I can assure you will be fair, prompt and well thought out. We will be addressing those in due time.

We have updated our hours the holiday to provide recreation. As more boats and docks get placed, we will continue to update. Keep in mind, we are working without power and cannot safely navigate during hours of darkness.

Thank you for your continued support. Our #1 goal on June 23rd was to provide access and recreation to all of you prior to Independence Day. It may not be the same setup and with some frustration, but we are glad to have you back on the water. Today we are working on clearing up safety concerns, fixing walkways, moving B dock to land access and providing parking to each one of you. We will continue our water taxi today until 6PM. Keep in mind July 3rd-7th our water taxi to F and A docks will run 9AM to 8PM. D, B, AA dock will have full access via parking lots. Parking arrangements are being vetted as we speak…so more to come on where to park for easiest access. Unfortunately, our ship store is closed. Our sister property, Lake Country can provide fuel, power, pump out, beer, ice and merchandise to sell. All of that with a short 10 min boat ride from Eagle (Map below).

We do encourage you to come down and make your boat ready today. We anticipate a lot of activity and a full water taxi during the holiday hours, which makes it difficult to bring a lot of supplies with you. When you come, a jump box and/or generator could come in handy if your boat requires power or a battery charge. We have purchased portable generators for each dock that you can also use for your boat lift. Another option is purchasing a solar waterproof battery charger that can assist keeping your boat ready for use. If you were on G, E docks and want to reclaim your dock items, please come down with a trailer, moving truck, etc to take your goods. Keep in mind, some of these items were lost in the storm or damaged beyond salvage.

We still have a long way to go and will keep you updated along the way. The two priorities are land access and power. I assure you we are working through both currently and will update you as soon as we know more. Our construction team has met with power vendors and devising a temporary solution. Keep in mind, current dock placements are temporary. Once re-building / repairs start, we will be reconfiguring.

Thank you for being a valued customer of Eagle Mountain Marina. Happy Independence Day!

Linda
