Saturday Ride Recap

This last Saturday Brian and I went out on a ride. The day before we had decided to go Pony Shop, to kinda say hi to a Lou that wasn't there but, more to just have a place to go. I was slow to get out of bed the morning of the ride and this, plus a long breakfast, resulted in Brian showing up while I was still getting ready. Getting ready for weather that was slightly warmer than the real weather. We were riding down 31st and every time we crossed a North-South street we felt a strong wind from the north. I didn't realize just how strong that wind was or how cold parts of me would get while riding into it. We pasted some runners event, went under the underpass crowded with startled, vulgar people and came to that slanted, straight part of the trail. The wind was incredible, we were down in the drops going hard at about 14 mph with big waves crashing next to us. The waves were crashing and coming all the way across the path, deep enough to cover the top of my rims easily. We came to a sandy beach area and unlike Brian, who had smartly worn tights, my bare legs were getting constantly sand blasted and it hurt so much the first time the wind picked up I swerved and almost took out Brian. We both avoided nearly getting entirely soaked in another section close to the beach and some how made it to Pony Shop. We had some bagels and warmed up enough to make it home. This was my first taste of cold Chicago riding for the year and I'm not sure I'm too excited about it.
