Moving Up in the Rankings

Huge props to the team (Dan, Elena, Waylon, Chase, Jesse and Bryce) for hanging tough and racing this weekend in Depauw after a monster week of training in the Georgia mountains. I'm sure they're all exhausted right now but their efforts have been rewarded with IIT Cycling moving from 10th to 6th in the season rankings. Our two Team Time Trial squads picked up 72 conference points in the miserable 45 degree rain with our 'A' team beating Northwestern by one second!

Special recognition needs to go to Daniel Chavez, who you may hear us refer to as Eddy Merckx (aka "the Cannibal", look him up for your cycling history lesson of the week). Daniel came to Georgia with a steel-frame, down-tube shifting bike. Despite the many attempts of Waylon (a category 2 racer) and John (cat 3) to prove their superiority, Daniel matched them stroke-for-stroke up every single mountain. And if the fact that his 6-speed was keeping up with their 10-speed bikes on gradients as steep as 20% isn't enough, we think his small chain-ring was a 42! Daniel then went on to race the TTT on the 'A' squad with Chase and Waylon in his third race ever. Welcome to racing, Daniel.

Butler is only 8 points behind us so lets keep it up and have a strong showing at Lindenwood this weekend!
