Lindsey Wilson Race Report - Sheena

This was my first race weekend with the Illinois Tech Cycling Team. I didn’t participate in the Team Time Trial because I’m the only female on the team. I had a fun time watching all the teams race. The people from Marion had crazy time trial helmets, they looked like they were from the future. Our team got harassed by some dogs halfway through. It was a fun weekend, plenty of team bonding.

I rode with the guys to check out the road race course. We ended up going down the hill that was the big climb at the end of the actual race. It was super steep and some riders had slipped near the bottom. It was totally scary, I had never been on a hill that steep before.

Women’s B/C Criterium

This was the only race I actually participated in this weekend. The field couldn’t have been more than 20 riders. The main features of the course were a sharp turn in the first half and a short climb in the second half. It was a fun race. Since we were a small group and some of us inexperienced, the race organizer (I’m not sure what his title is, but I think his name is Mike) said that noone would be pulled in the race. It didn’t matter if you got lapped (like me, who was lapped twice), you had to finish the race. The ground was wet because it rained that morning, but it wasn’t slippery. I’m not sure what kinds of things I’m supposed to report on. Most of the other riders were really nice and cheered me on even though I sucked. All in all, good times, can’t wait for the next one.

Cheers,

Sheena
