Purdue 'cross Regionals Recap

I woke up, made some toast, put some jelly on that toast and shuffled outside to see how cold the day ahead would be. The deliciousness of the strawberry preserves was ruined when I looked up to see storm clouds looming and imagined the muddy, cold race I was about to take part in. We packed the trailer, and set off driving. The relatively short drive was nice and coupled with some pre-race Arnold Palmer hydration I was feeling good by the time got to Purdue. I was eager to pre-ride the track to figure out my gearing, which would have been good if the track was still intact. According to Purdue "officials" either "wind" or "drunk people" that destroyed the track but either way we had no idea what was going on until the race. Having chosen the lower gearing there were certainly parts of the track where I suffered from 130-cadence-singlespeed-woes, but it turned out to be alright being that I could just barely ride the steepest parts of the track and ended up with 9th place, above some amount of derailleur using competitors. All in all it was a good day for all only spoiled by some Marian "racer" that is part of the so-called "Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld Team", whatever that is.
