Lindsey Wilson Race Report -Brian

The racing season began this weekend 7 hours away in Columbia Kentucky with weather that was gorgeous relative to the conditions here in Chicago. Bryce and got headed out to begin our attempt at chasing down the other car with a very jerry-rigged bike rack in tow. Upon arrival we were happy to remove the same number of bikes that the trip began with into our (single) hotel room and enjoyed some short cozy rest.

The first race was a Team Time Trial where we began to see what we were in for. The "rolling hills" incorporated were definitely just a preview of what was to come during the following road race (albeit still larger than anything in this area). The course was shortened from what was listed and we were all just beginning to warm up when a couple of dogs decided to pay all the teams passing their area a visit. Our group split up and the three necessary riders crossed the line shortly after.

After some small town exploration we arrived at the site of the road race and began to scope out the course, riding backwards to determine what the finish would hold. This turned out to be both good and bad as we saw what monsters of hills would await us. Lining up at the start with a very large men's D field was somewhat intimidating and we got of to a very high paced start. I was popped off the back not too far into the race and enjoyed some beautiful riding and conversation with others in similar positions.

The following day held a criterium on a rather enjoyable 1km loop. There was some confusion at the start due to some of the riders inexperience after which I proceeded to follow my previous day's example and do a bit of solo riding in the rear.

So all in all I'll take this weekend as a learning experience and hopefully apply some of the information gained next weekend at the Ohio State race.
