The physical education curriculum aims to develop students’ basic sports skills, health and fitness, sports-related values and attitudes, knowledge and practise of safety, knowledge of movement, and aesthetic sensitivity. To help students better achieve the learning targets and enhance their learning motivation and efficiency, the school selected the appropriate learning contents and adjusted the strategies on learning and teaching based on students’ physical disabilities and learning needs.
Physical education aims to develop students’ physical competence, to promote nerve, muscle, bone and functional parts of the body. It also aims to arouse students’ interests in sports associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. Through games and physical activities, students are expected to learn the importance of collaboration and communication, thus cultivate their positive attitudes and sportsmanship.
A wide range of physical activities is organised to develop students’ motor and sports skills and ensure that they enjoy a broad programme, forming a habit of doing physical activities frequently. “Motor and Sports Skills” includes fundamental activities, ball games, athletics, dance, gymnastics, other activities (e.g. adventure activities in the senior secondary section and using fitness equipment), etc.
Through circuit training, resistance training, cardiorespiratory fitness training and endurance training, students are expected to achieve good cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance and power. Students are also expected to put motor and sports skills into practice to prevent sports trauma. Besides, the school-based curriculum includes knowledge of fitness and nutrition for a healthy and independent life.
The meanings of sports competitions are understood to develop positive values and attitudes.
Risk management is learnt to implement measures to prevent sports injuries.
A knowledge base is constructed for fun, performance and the organisation of physical activities.
Correct and graceful postures are trained to develop motor skills, enhance motor coordination and facilitate the full development of the body. Students’ abilities in observing, analysing, judging and creating physical performance are expected to be cultivated.
