Purpose
To create four equally formed tiles
To demonstrate the effects of layering glaze colors
To develop glazing skills
To contribute to a test tile wall for current and future ceramics students
I think something that highlight my quality craftsmanship is that when I finished the tile itself, I went back around the edges (or at least tried) to fix any cracks/line it up more. Glazing is important, so my notices were that the glaze got thicker, and then it even usually lightened up since my main glaze was white-clover 0-11. I think it wasn't too surprising since when you add white in with other paint, usually it gets lighter (in paint), although the way it lightened up was weird since it was sort of splotchy sometimes (I think?). I think that working with glaze is important since it gives the clay itself more than just a functional purpose and gives it a reason to be sought after. We saw/learnt about this in the reading when they learned about new kilns/furnaces for pottery, leading to better management of colors and after such discoveries they look was as important if not more important than the function.
