Stoneware clay, 4.5 inch x 2 inches
Project Goals:
Learn about sculptors who work to define space
Work with clay to create a non-representational sculptural form that utilizes positive and negative space to make it interesting from all sides.
Artists studied: Barbara Hepworth, Ruth Asawa, Henry Moore, Jean Arp, Mark di Suvero
While I was making this sculpture I have found that it is easy to dry. When you are working with the clay it can dry right in your hands if not careful. Another characteristic is it is sticky. When you work with clay it can stick to your hand fast. It can also stick to the tables.
It has a ridge running through the whole piece starting from one side to the back and on the side again. It also has a huge deep crater on one side, and a small cliff-like piece on the opposite side. Think the obscurity of the piece makes people want to pick it up, it is unique. While it is unique to other pieces, it is never the same so people would also want to turn it around and get every site to see.
I think mine is resembling Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture. We both have a flow to our sculpture, and sure mine isn't as smooth, but I think the flow is still there to my sculpture. In the sculpture below, you can see the flow I am talking about. I think I mimicked it alright without meaning too.
