Essential Question:
What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still life drawing?
Project Goals:
Learn about artists who work to use mark-making to show volume in their drawings
Learn and refine observational drawing skills, including contour drawing, perspective, value, measuring, proportion, and placement of objects
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Pen, 9” x 12”
My work is very similar to Giorgio Morandi’s since they both use cross-hatching. Mine is a bit different since they curve to the shape of the object, making it seem more 3d, perchance.
I think I centered it better and made the dark darker and the lights not so light that it's blank, I think the cross-hatching was also very good in my newest piece as the old one seemed less 3d since of the basic shading.
The necessary components to a successful still life is having great perspective, good values in the correct places, correct sizes, and the angles of which the light comes in at. With just those 4 essential elements, you could make a great still life without the crosshatching and such advanced techniques.
