Purposes:
To learn how Levitation is being used in the world of photography
To make connections from levitation to real-world uses
To create levitation photographs inspired by other amateur and professional photographers
Miriam-Webster dictionary defines the following terms;
Levitation: The rising or lifting of a person or thing by means held to be supernatural
Paranormal: Not scientifically explainable
One key thing to remember when creating a levitation image is realism. The nature photo can appear supernatural, but if aspects such as the brightness and exposure of an image are off, then the image appears less realistic. An aspect that can add realism to a photo is a drop shadow; the shadow can further construct the illusion of the levitation, making it seem like the levitating subject is actually a part of the background.

Looking at the images above, I have three ideas for my levitation photos. The Hayashi Natsumi photo makes me think that if I can have some sort of tripod set up, then I can take a picture of myself to use in one of the photos. The Kelly Grace photo makes me think to create a photo of someone seemingly falling, and the Rey Vo Lution photo inspires me to take two pictures of the same setting and photoshop them together to create a seemless image.
I took inspiration from the Hayashi Natsumi photo to create this image, and used a small tripod to take a photo of myself sitting on a stool. I then cropped the photo so only I was visible, and then placed the picture of me on a backdrop of a photo I took whilst hiking Mount Katahdin. Finally, I added a shadow and adjusted the lighting to create the finished image above.
For this photo, I found a photo of my friend falling over, and I photoshopped it into the background photo of a cliff surrounded by water. I took inspiration from the Kelly Grace photo to make this image, and I think the final product turned out fairly well.
For this photo, I took inspiration from Rey Vo Lution by taking two photos of the same setting. I first took a photo of my sister doing a plank on a stool and my bed, and then a photo of the backdrop without my sister or the stool. After photoshopping out the stool and adding in a shadow, the final image makes it appear as if my sister is holding up her entire body using only her arms with the bed rim as support.
