Purpose:
To understand how a line can be used to create a three-dimensional form, to create a sculpture that considers balance and repetition, variety and emphasis, and to consider where artists find their inspiration
The variety in my sculpture comes from the different-sized loops. From my centerpiece’s smaller loop to the two larger loops that encompass it, the variety in size is noticeable throughout the sculpture. My era of emphasis is the small loop in the middle. I have shown emphasis in the area by gluing a piece of paper to it. The shape stands out because while the other loops are circular, the centerpiece is more of a teardrop shape.
I thought that sculpture was just a porcelain bowl or a statue of someone historic. But sculpture is so much more than that. After seeing the artwork made by Stephan White and Martian Puryear, as well as making my own sculpture, I think that sculpture is a way to express one’s creativity in the third dimension.
