Social Emotional Learning During the Summer 7/6/2020

Suggested activities can be repeated and you can choose what to enjoy at any time during the week.

I hope you enjoy them!

Activities to Choose From For All Grades

Book Club

Join in and Play by Cheri J. Meiners How do you ask to play? How do you share ideas for playing? What if I lose the game or don't get a turn? This week's "Book Club" title breaks down some of the components of joining a play activity and invites you to talk with your child on what to do and what to say.

Recreational SEL

Let's Make Goop! Follow this recipe to make homemade Goop! Promote mindfulness by having your child watch and notice the materials and how they change when mixed. (Extend the learning by connecting to the science concepts of forms of matter, solids, liquids and gas. Describe how each form of matter is different.) Once made, have your child notice the Goop. What does it feel like? Is it cold, slippery, liquid or solid? What happens when the Goop is pinched or formed into a ball?

Field Trip!

National Geographic field trip to Alaska Take a moment to cool down watching the Orca or Killer Whale floating in ice cold Arctic waters. Did you know that the Orca like to have their backs scratched too? (Scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the video!)

Optional Fun Activities

Emotional ABCs This is an engaging interactive website for your child to explore emotions. Each whimsical monster illustrates an emotion. You can print out cards to play games or simply use as a way to talk about feelings or even help make an "I statement" (e.g. "I feel...; when...; because... and I want...")

Zen Den Your child will learn about mindfulness, yoga and explore how to calm one's brain with Jamie. There are many episodes to choose from!
