Activities to Choose From For All Grades

Assignment due 11/13/2020

Choose one of the two "We Thinkers" activities below.

Materials: Scissors and a glue stick

We Thinkers - Expected and Unexpected Behavior

Instructions:

First cut out the cards on the last pages (each activity will have eight cards.)

Second, look at each card and decide if the behavior is "expected" or "unexpected"

Last, glue the "expected behavior cards in the green thought bubble picture and the "unexpected" behavior in the red thought bubble picture. Parents you may model the placement of the first card, remember to explain your thinking.

We Thinkers - Expected and Unexpected Behavior 2

First cut out the cards on the last pages (each activity will have eight cards.)

Second, look for the "clues" or "hidden rules" and match the "expected" behavior or clothing with its setting.

Last, glue the cards on the pictures showing the setting they match. Parents you may model the placement of the first card, remember to explain your thinking.

Key vocabulary:

"Hidden Rules" are rules that are not spoken or written. We figure out the hidden rules by "Thinking with our Eyes" or looking for clues to figure out what is expected.

"Expected Behaviors" - When we behave in a way that is expected (e.g., follow the rules; listen to adults), other people have good thoughts about us. When we behave in ways that are "Unexpected" or do not match the situation or setting, other people will feel uncomfortable and may even have uncomfortable thoughts about us.

Book Club

Listen and Learn, Cheri J. Meiners, M.Ed.

"There is so much to learn about the world." This week in Social Group, we began our theme of how to be a good listener. "Whole Body Listening" means we use every part of our body to help us listen. Have your child watch this Youtube read aloud of "Listen and Learn" and see if they can pick out all the parts of your body that help people listen?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness exercises can be done at any time! I generally guide the students in the beginning and at the end of each lesson. These brain based exercises can help bodies and brains remain calm and focused. This year's series of mindfulness exercises largely came from a collection titled "Little Renegades."

Mindful Owl

Stand or sit like an owl with big wings at your sides. Relax your shoulders. Breathe in and bring your big wings up. Breathe out and bring your big wings down slowly as you release your breath. Repeat two more times.

Recreational SEL

Mystery Science - How Were Emojis Created? Emojis are a fun way we can express our emotions - don't you agree? Find out how they were created and take a moment to draw a handful to show others how you are feeling!

Adam Parker - Paying Attention

Join Mr. Parker in discussion and song about the importance of using our eyes and ears to pay attention. This month, our lessons will be all about listening and what a better way than to learn a song to help children remember!

Lyrics

"It starts with reading bodies and faces but don’t forget the situation the world can give us so many clues so what are you going to do

Be a detective, be a social detective use your eyes for watching ears for listening and reading the room."
