Extend the conversation to your pets or plants if you have them or discuss how we can care for other living things (wild and domestic) as if they are our friends.

Extend the conversation to your family. (Second grade may like to make connections with Grandfather Tang's Story Grandfather Tang's Story .) Ask, "How did Little Soo show care for Grandfather Tang?"

Modification: Feel free to list the important details of the story for your child and discuss what each means and/or "looks like" siting examples. For example, "Friends help each other; decide things together; work together; share things; are fair with each other; always stick together; talk when they have problems (good time to practice "I statements"); take turns; are kind to one another."
