Worland- Students and spectators are looking forward to the 2026 soccer season, which got underway when practices started on March 9th for both boys and girls.
Jesus Davila, WHS Girls head coach, said he wants his team to focus on skills and falling in love with the game.
“I want to continue to build on the growth that we made,” Davila said. “last year we embraced the idea of “Narrow the Gap.” This allowed us to focus on growing and falling in love with the process rather than being results oriented. So this year, I'm excited to see the growth the girls will make as a team.”
Davila started coaching in 2012 and began to coach in Thermopolis. Davila volunteered as an assistant coach with the boys program Spring of 2013. The following year, he became an official assistant coach on the boys program, and he served there until Spring 2023 when he moved over to the girls soccer program as a head coach.
Senior Lady Warrior Alayna Study said she has specific things she wants to focus on this season.
“I want to communicate with teammates more and provide my best effort on the field,” Study said. Study anticipated Buffalo being tough competition this season.
New teammate Natalie Bishop said she is expecting to play defense and is excited for her first high school season.
Coach Ron Overcast will take charge of the boys team again.
Thomas Asay, a freshman, said Soccer is his favorite sport, and he is really excited for his first season as a Warrior. When asked why he loves soccer, Asay said, “It’s fast pace, and it makes you feel alive!”
The first game for both the Warriors and Lady Warriors will be March 26th at Lander, followed by the first home game March 31st at 4:00 pm.
