Practice Makes Perfect

Worland – As the season goes by, so does the amount of practice put in.
The Warrior Indoor Track team's practices have been going very well, according to Head Coach Tracey Wiley.
“We are trying kids in different events, as we look to see in the long run where we can score the most points against 3A. While every meet we will compete against 4A as well, I remind the kids that we only look at who beats us as a 3A school. Kids are working hard. It's fun to see them compete every weekend,” Wiley said.
Although the team does not have an indoor track, they still make do with practicing in the halls of the high school and around town. As the runners sprint around the hallways, some practice out on the outdoor track, and some even run around the neighborhood.
The throwers have been practicing behind the upper bleachers, making use of the space. Some athletes utilize the weight room to target the areas needed for their event.
Due to Greybull athletes joining the WHS team this year, there are many new faces after school, and so many more people in each event.
When asked how indoor track is going so far, senior Eason Peterson said, “Good. I throw things far.”
WHS Senior Mariska Leyva said, “I’m so happy that we have coaches for throwing this season. It's really helping our technique.”
While competing in Casper earlier this month, Worland placed 5th against 4A teams. At the Gillette meet, WHS Girls got 9th overall; 2nd in 3A, and WHS Boys got 10th overall; 2nd in 3A.
January placings are as follows:
Casper Meet:
Kalistynn Crippen 4th overall in the 55; 2nd in 3A
Cherise Douzenis 2nd overall in the 200; 1st in 3A
