Worland- The Lady Warriors were not as fortunate and fell to the Cody Fillys, the final score was 56-14.
The Lady Warriors played with lots of heart and grit and never quit hustling across the court. Although they struggled with free throws, their defense looked solid, and there are other team positives that have been developing throughout the season.
Last week, the Lady Warriors played good defensive games but lost to Lander and Pinedale.
“After our efforts against Pinedale and Lander, we have shown defensively that we can play with the top-tier teams in 3A,” said WHS Head Coach Mark Mortimer. “Our areas of growth continue to be rebounding on both ends of the floor, cleaning up turnovers against full-court pressure, and having the presence of 6 - 7 scorers each night.”
“As a team, we’re more consistent through all four quarters,” said Sophomore Annie Page.

WORLAND — The Lady Warriors basketball team will officially open their season when practice begins on November 24. Head coach Mark Mortimer has set ambitious goals for the year, aiming to finish as a top-four seed entering the regional tournament, rank among the top eight teams statewide in both scoring offense and scoring defense, and ultimately secure a spot at the state tournament.
One of the main challenges Mortimer anticipates is defining and developing roles within the team. To address this, he plans to incorporate extensive scrimmaging early on, giving players the opportunity to naturally establish where they fit best.
Reflecting on last season, Mortimer emphasized the importance of early commitment and team unity. “The end of the season is too late for buy-in; it has to be from day one,” Mortimer said.
Good luck to the Lady Warriors as they tip off a new season.

Worland – The freshman Lady Warriors played a tough game against Lovell at Worland High School January 22nd and were unable to pull out the win. The final score was 61-24.
Despite the loss, the freshman girls put in a strong effort and worked together to put points on the board. With Lovell in foul trouble, the Lady Warriors were able to make free throw shots and executed many plays.
When asked what could be worked on as a team, freshman Moeana Peterson said, “Even though we lost, we played hard and gave it all we got, and we learned a lot. We were also able to play as a team, but we need to work on our shots.”
The Lady Warrior’s performance showed promising growth for future games and commitment to the rest of the team.
Later in the week, the freshmen girls fell short to Cody with a setback score of 61-25.
Despite the loss, freshman Brianna Cauffman said she saw lots of positives, especially with the team having no subs.
“We’ve learned a lot and improved from last year,” Cauffman said. “We’ve learned to push through and work hard- we need to communicate more.”
The team will face off against Buffalo January 31st followed by games with Lovell, Lander, and Pinedale the first week of February.
