The teacher gives the students cards with two-syllable words that contain long vowels. Students work in partners to read each word. While engaging in read alouds and shared reading experiences, the teacher stops at grade appropriate irregularly spelled words. He/she models how to recognize and read the words. The words are added to the class word wall for later reference.
