Step 2: Assessment
Step 3: Lesson Instructions
Students explain the characters, setting, or plot using what they learn from the illustrations and words in a text. These texts can be print and/or digital.
In the Classroom:
Students independently read a text. Students complete graphic organizers that focus on the setting. In one column, they explain the setting. In the second column, they tell what words and/or illustrations provided information that helped them understand the setting. Students create character maps for the main character at the beginning of the story, based on the illustrations and text. They complete the same activity at the end of the story. Then students compare the two, discussing how the character evolved throughout the story based on the illustrations and words in the text.
