A very tiring week this week and we are glad that the weekend is once again here!
In Maths, we have spent the week revising perimeter and area - but going further and using the area and known sides to work out a missing side on rectangles, including squares! We also explored working out the surface area of cubes and cuboids. In English this week we have finished reading the second part of Beowulf and have started the third part, where we have been introduced to the Dragon of the Deep. A highlight has been creating our own mythical creatures, and we look forward to drawing someone else's next week - based on their descriptive writing.
In History this week we have been learning about Viking warriors and weaponry, and added this key information to our Viking Knowledge Organisers. In Geography, we have been learning about the key differences between Norway, Sweden and Denmark's population, economy, traditions and cuisine. In Latin, we translated a story about a visit to the Roman public baths, before learning more about what such a visit would have entailed. We discovered the Latin names for all the different rooms and were impressed with the first example of under-floor heating in the form of a hypocaust. The shared ‘sponge on a stick’ in the latrine was less appealing!
In Drama this week, we used the story of Beowulf as stimulus for a number of activities including making class monsters (based on descriptions of Grendel in the book) and conscience alley to explore Beowulf's thoughts and decision-making process about his trip to Denmark. One side of the alley tried to convince him not to go and the other tried to persuade him why it was a good idea. In Science, we explored how pulleys work. We even had the opportunity to build models to demonstrate their function. We have now completed our topic on forces and finished with a quiz to recap what we have learnt this term.
Have a lovely weekend!
