As we approach the end of the term, the pace remains relentless. This week has been particularly special, highlighted by our Year 3 to 6 children’s exceptional display at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday evening. Additionally, Year 4 pupils enjoyed trips to the Guildhall and Mithraeum, while Year 6 ventured to Hatchlands Park on Thursday.
We began the week by distributing a large number of certificates, which had been delayed due to various topical assemblies. This year, our approach to achievement assemblies has slightly changed. We firmly believe that while children accomplish a great deal, it is equally important for them to value their achievements intrinsically, rather than seeking extrinsic rewards. Consequently, we have gradually reduced the distribution of medals, badges, and stickers, opting instead to occasionally celebrate the children with certificates that reflect the school's values. Special certificates are also awarded for musical endeavours etc, where appropriate.
The children's achievements were evident on Wednesday night, as their dedication to musical pursuits culminated in a fantastic performance at the Royal Albert Hall. If you have ever visited the Albert Hall, you will know that performing there is an extraordinary opportunity. Our youngest children in Year 3, up to our oldest in Year 6, had the privilege of performing before a full house as part of the Music for Youth Proms. Judging by the response on our Instagram post, it was clearly an amazing night. Special mention must go to Ms Callaway and the support team who accompanied her, ensuring the children's safety and enjoyment. Thank you to all the parents who attended; I am sure you had a brilliant evening.
To conclude the week, we welcomed a special group of people to the school: the grandparents. I was fortunate during my own school days to have my grandmother as a supply teacher in my primary school. Occasionally, she would teach my class, though she showed no favoritism and was decidedly old school! It was lovely chatting with the grandparents this morning; they clearly think highly of the school and are proud of their grandchildren's accomplishments. For grandparents unable to attend today, we are always happy to arrange a tour, especially for those visiting from overseas. Please feel free to contact me.
This time next week, we will be in the midst of the POW Christmas Fair. Thank you to everyone working diligently behind the scenes to make this event a success. As the Parents’ Present Room and the Chocolate/Toy Tombola are the most popular attractions at the fair, please continue to send in your donations!
Have a great weekend, probably only 1 sleep until we are all ‘Whammed’ with ‘Last Christmas’. Oh well. KB
