It's been another busy week in Year 2 amidst the rehearsals and preparations for our Nativity, which is really taking shape.
In Maths, we turned to fractions. The children found halves and quarters of both shapes and amounts, and challenged themselves to find three quarters, as well as noticing that two quarters is the same as one half. In English, we focused on grammar, specifically exploring different sentence types and the punctuation associated with commands, questions, exclamations and statements.
In Science, we investigated the best material for a teabag. We wrapped loose tea leaves in different materials, including tin foil, cloth and kitchen towel. The pupils dipped each of them into warm water, using a stop watch to ensure that each material was kept in the water for the same amount of time. They then compared the tea they had made with a control sample. The final Tudor monarch to study in History was Elizabeth I, and the children learnt about her unique reign. She had some interesting traits, including her short temper, and the children found out that she was known to throw shoes at people in a rage! Meanwhile, in Geography, we continued with our topic exploring London and the children enjoyed working on an activity identifying key landmarks in the city.
The week ended with the excitement of Grandparents' Day. Many children had visitors to show around and proved to be excellent tour guides.
Have a wonderful weekend, ahead of another eventful week.
